There are two types of Religious Institutions

1. Run by Private
2. Run by Govt

There are Private Churches, Private Temples, Private Mosques.

Of the Private Churches, few are run by Individuals running one church alone and few are by societies like Catholic Bishops, CSI, ESI running many churches. These were built by Private Money or Donations to Private. Government Money was not used for these.

Of the Private Temples, few are run by Individuals who run one temple alone and few are run by Pangaru Adigalar etc who run multiple temples. These were built by Private Money or Donations to Private. Government Money was not used for these.

Of the Private Mosques, few are run by individuals who run one mosque or one darqah alone and few are run by Bigger groups who run many. These were built by Private Money or Donations to Private. Government Money was not used for these.

Coming to Government
Government Runs Churches which were built by Government on Tax Payers Money – eg the church inside Fort St.George
These are run by the owners of the land individually

Government Runs Temples which were built by Government with Tax Payers Money – eg Tiruchendur Temple
These are run by HRCE

Government Runs Mosques which were built by Government with Tax Payers Money. These are run by Wakf Board –
